We are a Pet Friendly Retirement Community
MorningStar of Observatory Park recognizes the tremendous ministry pets provide to a person, which is why our retirement community is pet friendly. It is also the reason we are thrilled to be partnering with Barbara J. Kreisman, PH.D., Professor Emerita, Daniels College of Business, University of Denver, and her two gentle and loving HABIC-certified therapy dogs. Both Brushy and Little Brit will join Barbara in spending time with our assisted living and memory care residents.
There is a whole body of scientific research showing proven benefits of animal-assisted therapy. Researchers have found a connection between interacting with animals and an improvement in mental and physical health as well as in skills. When most people are around animals, it prompts their body to release serotonin, prolactin and oxytocin – all “happy hormones” known to heighten feelings of relaxation, reduce stress and support good mental health. People also report a decrease in depression and sadness.
An interesting 2007 study from the American Journal of Critical Care 2007 reports visits with therapy dogs “improved cardiovascular health in heart patients, precipitating lowered blood pressure and lowered stress hormone levels.” Another report from the American Heart Association finds working with therapy animals improved the health of heart failure patients in the hospital.
While we cannot make any guarantees regarding our therapy dogs and MorningStar at Observatory Park’s residents’ health, we do know there is no better feeling than petting a dog and seeing how happy it makes them. Pets listen without judgment and give unconditional love. Animal therapy is also soothing to those suffering from memory loss and experiencing difficulty using language to express themselves.
Our pet policy includes assessing an animal’s appropriateness for our retirement communities on a case-by-case basis; and we require a one-time, non refundable pet fee. Our contemporary 5-story building offers 60 assisted living suites in a variety of configurations and floorplans. For seniors with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, our distinct Reflections Neighborhood provides safety, security, people and programs to help preserve the individual’s dignity and self-worth. Please contact us to learn more about our retirement communities and don’t miss out on our Early Bird Specials. We will open to residents very soon.
