5 POPULAR ATTRACTIONS IN SEATTLE
At our senior living center in Everett, Washington, residents have numerous opportunities to take day trips to one or more of Seattle’s most popular attractions. Organized group tours at our assisted living facility in Lynnwood help residents make new friends, as well as learn about the finest of what Seattle has to offer. We do not need research studies to tell us about the benefits of going on group tours.
However, we could use a little input that helps us plan entire days devoted to visiting one or more of the five most popular attractions in Seattle.
Space Needle
It’s featured as part of the introduction to the iconic television show Fraser. The Space Needle attracts both locals and tourists for its amazing views and rich history. Constructed for the Seattle World’s Fair held in 1962, the Space Needle has turned into an attraction that symbolizes the Emerald City more than any other attraction in Seattle. It measures 605 feet, with the revolving observation tower sitting more than 500 feet off the ground.
Observation tower views include the Puget Sound and more distant Olympic Mountains.
Pike Place Market
Featured on several Food Network shows, Pike Place Market includes the first Starbucks cafe, as well as more than 200 artists that sell their creations. Best known for fish-tossing at the seafood market, Pike Place Market offers enough attractions to keep visitors busy for an entire day. In 2017, the market expanded to offer a place to relax in the open-air plaza, as well as soak in the scenic views of Elliot Bay.
Museum of Pop Culture
Referred to as the MoPOP Museum, this attraction pays homage to Seattle’s most influential cultural icons. Founded by Microsoft’s co-founder Paul Allen in 2000, MoPOP presents film festivals, constantly changing art exhibits, and a battle of the band competitions that feature Seattle’s up-and-coming bands. Science fiction memorabilia is a part of the museum, as is a section devoted to the grunge era of music that emerged in the city during the 1990s.
Woodland Park Zoo
As a Seattle attraction that is ideal for the entire family, the award-winning Woodland Park Zoo features displays of animals from regions located around the world. Located next to Green Lake Park in North Central Seattle, this massive attraction started as a small zoo more than 100 years ago, and it has morphed into one of the largest zoos in the United States featuring more than 300 species and countless exhibits.
The most popular animal exhibits include lowland gorillas and Malayan tigers.
Washington State Ferries
Another attraction that showcases the finest of what Seattle has to offer is the Washington State Ferries that traverse Puget Sound. As a common mode of transportation for commuters, the ferries provide scenic views of the natural splendor that surrounds Seattle. The largest fleet of ferries in the United States consisting of 20 boats takes visitors from Seattle to places like Port Townsend and Vashon Island. The Hiram M Chittenden Locks bustle with activity on the rare, hot days when temperatures rise well into the 90s.
